The Post Exercise *MAGIC Half Hour… does it exist?

I am a firm believer that you earn the right for a post workout cake, that’s the beauty of exercise to quell those niggly voices that I think some women have in the back of their heads clocking up what you’re eating. Its a release being able to eat with abandon and enjoyment.

I’ve ran with the theory that there is a magic half hour where you can eat pretty much anything and everything. Rightly or wrongly…. this I think is one of the great myths of exercise or one the great unappreciated truths : is there an afterburn effect from exercise?

If you exercise regularly for a half-hour, your body will burn fat post exercise. Any less than half an hour there won’t be any benefits. For the first 10-15 minutes that you exercise you burn is blood sugar, or glucose. Once you burn the glucose that’s in your bloodstream you then burn the glucose that’s stored in the liver and muscles.

AH so the afterburn does exist…?

When your body stops running on readily available blood sugar it then shifts into the beneficial act of burning body fat. Once you start to burn body fat, this fat begins to provide you with the energy you need to continue your day. It’s almost as if you are constantly eating. Your body is consuming its own fat for energy, in much the same way that it consumes food for energy. Increasing metabolism and efficiency in turning food to energy.

MAGIC!
