I’m back!!! Blog life has taken a back seat for a while, life has taken over and although I’m running as much as ever I’m up to my eyes mummying, setting up a new business and all the other million demands… So I’m really excited and happy to back and want to tell you all about my latest challenge. We Own the Night – the Nike x Elle 10k challenge.
Its so refreshing running a fun distance – with women who I often only catch whilst doing the baby juggle, for some this is their first challenge and others are marathon mums.
The juggle to squeeze it all in is as always hard as a mum – when we give ourselves up so naturally to our kids it’s sometimes easy to loose focus on yourself. Now this 10k is time to give back – to reinvest in you, ‘SOME VALUABLE YOU TIME’ because we all know a happy mummas equals a happy family.
And now we’re not meditating on some intricate life issue but we’re running together – the exhilaration of running as a pack – a pack of mums who rarely, the truth be know, are able to get out for the night and now all have green passes – and not only are we going to use them to run free around the park, no bags, no buggies holding us down but are running on a wave of Nike ruled beats pounding out from the sound systems set up around the course – high on endorphins and high on life! And freedom! I’m so excited!
I am lucky to run with the inspirational Mothers Meeting mums and have set up a running club that runs Victoria Park every Wednesday morning at 10.30am. We have been dedicating our runs to train for the 10K. Admittedly is sometimes impossible to stick to a training routine when trying to run with others so the Nike + app which we’re all linked on is the perfect way to feel part of the cause even if the only time you can slip out the house is after the morning 5am feed or after bedtime. Its also a motivator to not let our team down or get beaten in the miles we’re putting in to training.
SO we’re all on it and ready for the challenge.
I’m personally so excited thats marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe will be part of this truly unique 10K – she is one of my all time favourite and inspirational women. Also top female athlete Perri Shakes-Drayton will start the run, which will see interactive light shows illuminate the course while DJs play sets designed to energise runners on their journey around Victoria Park. Motivational messages will appear on giant digital screens to inspire runners to the finishing line. An event village will add to the festival feel of the night, with tents hosted by Nike+ and ELLE offering the latest in running advice and style tips.
